IMPORTANCE OF MONTAGE IN MY DOCUMENTARY
In a previous blog I talked about Sergei Eisenstein a Soviet film director and film theorist, a pioneer in the theory and practice of montage.
I would liked to base a large porportion of my 5 minute documentary extract on Sergei Eisenstein theory and practice of montage. Im going to craft my montages carefully by using them to create contrast between old and young dealing with the current pandemic. I will create the COVID-19 fast paced montage by using archived footage.
By using montage to create the contrast, I am able to edit videos together quickly to give a chaotic, busy feel and then I can also use montage to edit clips together slowly to connote loneliness and isolation.
I am going to use one of the main conventions of documentary which is voice overs, but I want my documentary to almost speak for its self and engage with the audiences in an emotional way. I will contact with them in an emotional way through my editing.
